Guide Dog At Work
About the Campaign
The “Guide Dog at Work” social awareness campaign aims to help pet owners understand why it’s important to keep their pets a safe distance away from guide dogs. Unfortunately, many pet owners are unaware of the potential danger and disruption their dogs can have on a guide dog team.
Guide dogs are responsible for leading someone who cannot see. Like drivers, they must pay attention to the “road” at all times. If a guide dog becomes distracted by another dog, the safety of the team is put at risk.
The Guide Dog at Work campaign was created by The Seeing Eye in response to its nationwide dog attack and interference survey. Findings showed that nearly 85% of guide dog teams experienced serious interference from other dogs, and that an alarming number of those incidents involved pet dogs that were leashed but inadequately controlled. With your help, we hope to change those statistics so people with guide dogs can go about their daily lives without fear of disruption by other dogs.
About The Seeing Eye
The Seeing Eye, Inc. the world’s oldest guide dog school is located in Morristown, New Jersey. Since 1929, The Seeing Eye has assisted men and women who are blind, helping them gain greater independence, self-confidence, and dignity through the use of Seeing Eye dogs.
