Welcoming a New Puppy: Tips for Puppy Proofing Your Home

Two seven-week-old black and tan German shepherd puppies tilt their heads as they sit on a piece of plastic play equipment in the outdoor section of their suite at our Chester Campus.

Whether you’re a Seeing Eye puppy raiser or have a pup of your own, it is always important to puppy-proof your home!

One thing to do is to ensure that all prescription drugs, medications, and other human supplements are stored securely and kept out of reach of a curious and clever puppy. This applies to older pups too, since they can reach side tables and high surfaces.

Be especially vigilant regarding the following substances, which are toxic to dogs.

– Anti-cancer drugs/heart medications

– Cannabis (Marijuana)

– Acetaminophen (Tylenol)

– Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory pills (Ibuprofen, Aspirin, Aleve)

– Vitamins/Cold & Flu medicine

– Anti-depressants
