Cathy Kiernan is Principal of CKiernanLaw, LLC. Prior to that, she served as Vice President and General Counsel at Seton Hall University until December 2019. She joined Seton Hall in 1989 and established the University’s first in-house legal department. She managed all of the University’s legal affairs. In addition, she was responsible for risk management, regulatory compliance, and internal audit. She was also a member of the President’s Executive Cabinet.
Ms. Kiernan holds a B.A. in English from Montclair State University and a J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law, where she was also an associate editor of the Seton Hall Law Review. She is a member of the Bar of the State of New Jersey and the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. Prior to joining Seton Hall, Ms. Kiernan served as a law clerk to the Honorable Frederick C. Kentz, III, New Jersey Superior Court, Chancery Division, and was also in private practice for several years at Whipple, Ross & Hirsch. She is a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys, as well as the New Jersey State Bar Association, where she serves as Vice Chair of the Higher Education Committee. Cathy resides in Manasquan, N.J., with her husband Bill, daughter Elizabeth, and goldendoodles, Chessa and Hazel.
